The Father Maynard E. Hurst Jr. Knights of Columbus Auxiliary held its bake-taste contest on Oct. 9 at the St. Louis Catholic Church Parish Activity Center.
Cake contest winners were, first place, Barbara Sanders, peanut butter cake; second place, Betty Baughman, banana cake; and third place, Teenie Bajon, strawberry cake. Pie contest winners were first place, Cheryll Thomas, layered turtle cheesecake pie; second place, Terrie Martin, autumn harvest cheesecake pie; and third place, Shirley Bonaccorso, mama’s lemon chess pie.
Bajon was contest chairwoman. Margaret Mannino and Baughman were co-chairwomen. Judges were Mike and Deanna Dugan and Joi Spears. The cakes and pies were served at the KC and auxiliary meal before their meeting.
Walter Imahara and his sister, Lily Metz, spoke about Imahara’s Botanical Garden in St. Francisville on Oct. 9 to the West Baton Rouge Garden & Civic Club.
After telling stories about the Haiku carvings done by their father, James Imahara, and telling their family history, Imahara led a tour of the 54-acre garden to view shrubs and trees planted in groups of threes and fives. The nine reflecting pools were named after James Imahara’s nine children.
Members returned to the conference center for a lunch prepared by the October committee members.
