CLINTON — State Police said a 57-year-old Zachary man died after suffering an unknown medical condition and driving off the road and into a ditch near La. 19 and La. 955 on Monday in East Feliciana Parish.
Gerald Hussey, 57, of Zachary, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck north on La. 19 around 1 p.m. when he was stricken, Trooper Jared Sandifer said in a news release.
Troopers believe Hussey had a heart attack, but a pending autopsy will determine the exact cause of death, Trooper Nick Manale said.
Hussey’s pickup drifted left across the opposite lane and ran off the road before stopping in a ditch, Sandifer said.
Witnesses told troopers that Hussey took no evasive action before running off the road, Sandifer said.
The East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Hussey dead at the scene, Sandifer said.
Hussey was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but troopers did not find any apparent injuries after their initial examination of the crash, Sandifer said.
Troopers do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash, Sandifer said.
