New Orleans — New Orleans police said a 37-year-old man died Wednesday night after being stabbed in the arm in Central City.
The stabbing was reported in the 1900 block of Josephine Street about 7 p.m., just an hour after police began investigating a double homicide involving two young children.
The man was found inside his home with a stab wound to the shoulder and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police said they are questioning someone.
Metairie — A 22-year-old Metairie man was shot five times while sitting in his aunt’s backyard early Thursday morning, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Glen Boyd, a sheriff’s spokesman, said the incident occurred in the 3100 block of Claiborne Avenue shortly after midnight.
The victim was sitting with a friend in the backyard, which abuts a wooded area.
The two men heard several shots when the victim was hit.
The shooting was initially classified as non-life-threatening, but the victim was later listed in critical condition, Boyd said.
However, most of his wounds are in his lower extremities.
New Orleans — A 22-year-old man with no prior convictions was booked with second-degree murder in connection with an Algiers homicide after federal and local officials caught him in Jefferson Parish.
Darius Lewis is being held at the Orleans Parish Central Lockup on $750,000 bond. Authorities accused him of killing Javon Johnson, 24, in the 2100 block of Cypress Acres Drive on Oct. 2.
Johnson was found lying near an outdoor staircase with multiple gunshot wounds.
Lewis was arrested in Westwego without incident by officers with the New Orleans Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Joint Task Force.
At a probable cause hearing, his public defender argued that Lewis deserved a low bond because he had no prior convictions, although he has been arrested before.
New Orleans — A New Orleans bakery employee has been booked with drug distribution after police said she was part of group selling marijuana alongside their baked goods.
Annette Reynolds, 43, was booked with marijuana distribution and possession of marijuana on Wednesday, the result of a joint investigation between New Orleans police and Drug Enforcement Administration. Reynolds is being held on $10,500 bond.
According to a probable cause hearing, Reynolds was an employee of Lady Adair’s Old-Fashioned Bakery.
That business was having regular packages shipped to it in a short amount of time, and authorities began to suspect that the packages were narcotics.
DEA agents secured search warrants and searched some of the packages and found 10 pounds of marijuana in plastic packages.
Officials notified the bakery that the packages had arrived, and Reynolds picked them up.
She was then arrested. Several other employees at the bakery were also arrested.
