The 4,700-square-foot home at the dead-end of Clarendon Drive in Kensington Estates is nestled on 4.5 acres and has a fabulous pool courtyard and cabana overlooking green spaces and manicured ponds with fountains. The property isn’t gated, but it might as well be. The driveway extends from the end of Clarendon Drive and curves through the property back to the tall, brick and stucco French-style offering.
Leaded glass front entry doors bring guests into the home, where antique heart pine floors almost all of the first floor. Immediately to the left is the home office, which has an arched wood window dressed in plantation shutters. On the opposite side is the formal dining room, with more heart pine floors, an iron chandelier and another arched window to the front yard. A long butler’s pantry heading to the kitchen has glass-front cypress cabinetry with a wine rack and granite counters.
Bull-nosed sheetrock archways lead into the living room, which has a wall of windows to the back of the property. An unusually large two-sided fireplace serves the living room and the keeping room on the opposite side. Interestingly, the living room fireplace has a granite tile surround and the keeping room side has old bricks. It’s primarily the old bricks and cypress that make the home warm and inviting.
The living room has an exit to a covered brick porch overlooking a gunite pool with a waterfall. Two circular fountains provide soothing sounds on the courtyard, but the highlight back here is an amazing cabana that houses an outdoor living room and kitchen. A wide brick fireplace is the focal point in the living room, and a Bull stainless grill, granite counters and a “Big Green Egg” smoker are featured in the kitchen. Like the home, the cabana has a tall roof with slate ridge caps. The view from the cabana and the pool courtyard is fabulous, with ponds, fountains and moss-draped oak trees down the hill.
Meanwhile, the master suite is very large, with a wide oval wall of windows that provide possibly the best views of all. A wide old brick fireplace keeps occupants toasty on cold winter nights. There are actually two master baths, one for him and one for her. His has a walk-in shower, a vanity and a toilet. Her side features a 6-foot Kohler jetted tub below two columns and a glass block window. She also has a vanity and makeup desk, as well as her own toilet. A single, huge closet with dressers and lots of hanging space stretches across the back wall of both bath areas.
Antique pine floors continue into the keeping and kitchen areas, where a large center island has a wine rack at one end. The kitchen appliance package is upscale Thermador, and includes a 6-burner commercial cook top with an oven, double wall ovens and a stainless double sink. The refrigerator is a big stainless SubZero, and cabinetry is warm cypress that matches the built-ins flanking the antique wood mantle on the keeping room fireplace. A cozy breakfast area nearby also has views of the pool courtyard.
There are two separate upstairs areas of the home, one accessible via stairs in the living room and one on the other side of the home by the laundry room near the exit to the home’s three-car garage. The living room stairs lead to a sitting room at the landing, as well as a long bedroom with its own full bath. The other stairs go to the home’s media/bonus room.
