The Federal Emergency Management Agency has opened a Disaster Recovery Center in West Baton Rouge Parish to assist homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained uninsured or under-insured damage as a result of Hurricane Isaac.
The center, in the West Baton Rouge Parish Community Center, 749 N. Jefferson Ave., will be open from
8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Thursday.
Specialists from the state, FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on the types of assistance available to survivors.
New Roads will host its second annual Harvest Festival on False River from Friday through Sunday.
The downtown event will feature live music performances on two stages from Shenandoah, Little Texas, Confunkshun and LTD, David St. Romain, Rockin’ Dopsie and Wayne Toups and national recording male gospel group The Veal Brothers, among others.
This year’s festival will also feature carnival rides on Morrison Parkway, a special Kids Zone activity area, displays at the Julien Poydras Museum and more than 100 arts and crafts vendors.

White Castle will hosts its Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The walk will begin in the parking lot of the American Legion Hall, 33700 Bowie St., and end at the White Castle Fitness Park.
The town is encouraging all organizations, clubs, churches and groups to attend and pay tribute to survivors and those who have passed away from breast cancer.
The city of Plaquemine is asking residents to submit photos recording local community events as well as local historical photos for possible inclusion in the 2013 Plaquemine calendar.
Photographers will be given credit if their work is published in the calendar.
If you have photos from events such as a Fourth of July celebration or the Children’s Christmas Parade — or nostalgic photos from the past — drop them off at the Mayor’s Office in Plaquemine City Hall or email ciofplaq@plaquemine.org.
The deadline is Friday.
The West Baton Rouge Museum will host a screening of the documentary “Mystery Mardi Gras Shipwreck” from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The event is free and open to the public.
Halloween stories, songs and pumpkin games, crafts and investigations are planned for preschoolers
at the West Baton Rouge Parish Library during its “Pumpkin Grins, Giggles & Surprises” event on Oct. 27 at 10 a.m.
The event will be followed by the library’s “Trick or Treat LEGO party” at 1:30 p.m.
