Baker police arrest armed robbery suspect

BAKER — Police arrested a 19-year-old man Monday accused of robbing another person on Seville Street on Friday, Police Chief Mike Knaps said.

Chavis Demond Duncan Jr., 4554 Beech St., Baton Rouge, was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of armed robbery, Knaps said.

Two McDonald’s employees were traveling in a car on Seville Street about noon when Duncan began following them and blocked them with his vehicle, Knaps said.

Duncan, armed with a handgun, robbed one of the employees of several hundred dollars, Knaps said.

The handgun broke and fell apart as he fled the scene, Knaps said.

The victims gave detectives descriptions of Duncan and his vehicle, Knaps said.

Detectives questioned Duncan on Monday and he confessed to the robbery, Knaps said.
