ä LSU fans: This was the Tiger Stadium atmosphere that makes LSU a Death Valley. The fans were raucous more than 30 minutes before kickoff. And the noise was deafening when LSU got rolling. The fans were the 12th man that LSU wanted.
ä LSU offensive line: The Tigers finally found a combination on the offensive line with Josh Dworaczyk at left tackle, Trai Turner at right guard and Vidal Alexander at right tackle. LSU outgained S.C. 406-211. South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who many expected to terrorize LSU quarterback Zack Mettenberger, was a non factor.
ä LSU running back Jeremy Hill: A star was born with the running of Hill, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound freshman from Redemptorist, Hill rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Hill gave LSU stability at running back and the big play it had been lacking.
ä South Carolina: We’re not trying to be the fashion police, but someone should be arrested for dressing the team in those gray uniforms with gray tops and gray pants. Those are the ugliest uniforms in the Southeastern Conference. Not a good look.
ä LSU punter Brad Wing: Wing, who was on the preseason watch list for the Ray Guy Award, was inconsistent. He averaged 33.5 yards on four punts, which is 10 less than his average. He nailed a 56-yard punt, but even that turned out wrong, because he outkicked his coverage, resulting in a long punt return that created field position for a touchdown in the third quarter.
ä South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier: Here is the stat of the game: South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore only rushed for 35 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries. The Head Ball Coach out-thought himself and got pass happy in a big game.
