Loranger High’s Jeryl Brazil received his official invitation to play in the 2013 Under Armour All-America High School Football game in a ceremony at the school Friday.
Brazil, an LSU commitment, received his commemorative jersey during a noon ceremony at the Tangipahoa-based school.
“It’s a privilege and an honor,” Brazil said of the invitation, according to a news release. “Not that many people get to play in this game, so the fact that I was chosen means a lot to me.”
Then on Friday night, Brazil helped fourth-ranked Loranger claim a 42-18 victory over Bogalusa in District 8-3A action. Brazil had two TD runs and also returned an interception for a TD for the Wolves. He plays quarterback and defensive back for LHS.
The Under Armour game is set for Jan. 4 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. Brazil, who committed to LSU before his junior season, was one of two south Louisiana players accepting jerseys last week. East Feliciana’s Kendell Beckwith received his jersey during a ceremony at his school.
A third player, University High defensive end Tim Williams, is scheduled to receive his jersey this week. A ceremony is planned for 3 p.m. Wednesday at the UHS practice field.
Redemptorist will honor its 2002 team that won a Class 3A state title during a Oct. 25 ceremony at the school. The cermony will be held in conjunction with the Wolves’ District 7-2A game with The Dunham School.
A pregame gathering for former players and coaches is set for 5 p.m. in the Redemptorist cafeteria. All ex-Redemptorist players who played for Sid Edwards are invited to attend.
Dunham needs to fill two varsity girls basketball open dates, one in late November and the other on Dec. 10.
