Teurlings cruises to win; Loranger drops Bogalusa

BREAUX BRIDGE — Zach LaFleur scored a pair of touchdowns as Teurlings Catholic, the fifth-ranked team in Class 4A, knocked off sixth-ranked Breaux Bridge 38-7 Friday night to highlight state prep action.

The contest was never close, as Teurlings jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on a 3-yard run by Jimmie McBride and an 82-yard punt return by Sage LeBlanc.

The Rebels increased their lead to 31-0 in the second quarter on 3 and 10-yard runs by LaFleur and a 32-yard field goal by Jacob Cunningham. Baylor Thompson’s 18-yard run in the third quarter wrapped up the scoring for Teurlings (6-1) which evened its record at 1-1 in District 5-4A.

Demontreal Babineaux scored on a 12-yard pass from Lane Landry for Breaux Bridge (5-2, 1-1).

LORANGER 42, BOGALUSA 18: Miguel Toefield carried 17 times for 261 yards and had an 89-yard scoring run among this three TDs to leading Loranger to the home-field District 8-3A win.

Loranger, the state’s No. 4-ranked Class 3A team, gained 403 yards on the ground while holding the visiting Lumberjacks to 70 rushing yards.

On the arm of Brian Williams, who completed 20 of 47 passes, the visiting Lumberjacks rolled up 297 passing yards.

Loranger quarterback Jeryl Brazil got the Wolves on the board first on a 7-yard run. Brazil later scored on a 1-yard run and a 25-yard interception return.

Loranger ran its record to 6-0, 2-0 in district, while Bogalusa stands 4-2 and 1-1.

RIVERFIELD 13, CENTRAL PRIVATE 12: Central Private, playing at home, rolled up 15 first downs to Riverfield’s 7 and outrushed Riverfield 172 yards to 76, but lost four fumbles and missed two extra points in the MAIS nondistrict matchup.

Ronnie Watkins got Central Private on the board in the first quarter when he recovered a Riverfield fumble in the end zone. The extra-point try failed.

Riverfield countered in the second quarter with a 10-yard Tristan Oswald-to-Conner Copeland TD pass, but missed the PAT, too.

Central Private’s Ryan Bowman found Brice Harper with a 24-yard scoring pass later in the second quarter. Another missed PAT left CPHS holding a 12-6 halftime lead.

Oswald connected with Brennan Morris on a 43-yard TD pass in the third quarter and Cody Hixon’s PAT gave Riverfield the win.

SOUTH LAFOURCHE 28, NEW IBERIA 26: In New Iberia, South Lafourche jumped out to a 28-7 first-half lead and held off a late New Iberia rally to take the lead in District 7-5A,

New Iberia (4-2, 3-1), which entered the game as the eighth-ranked team in Class 5A, took a 7-0 lead on a 13-yard pass from Josh Richie to Jason Jones.

South Lafourche (6-0, 3-0) tied the game with a 3-yard run by Colby Callais and took the lead for good on an 8-yard by by Jake Williams. Callais threw an 8-yard TD pass to zaron Jenkins and 79 yarder to Treavon Evans to up the lead to 28-7.

New Iberia’s Jason Jones started the Yellow Jacket rally with a 44-yard pass to Andrew Ricks and a 6-yard scoring pass to Tyler Archon. Jones finished with 23 of 41 passes for 290 yards.

WESTMINSTER CHRISTIAN 47, ST. EDMOND 21: In Opelousas, Wesley Bellard and Jalen Williams each scored three touchdowns as Westminster Christian Academy (5-2) improved to 3-1 in District 6-1A. Bellard scored on runs of 2 and 15 yards and caught a 41-yard pass from Luke Judice while Williams ran an interception back 50 yards for a touchdown, caught a 9-yard scoring pass and scored on a 5-yard run for Westminster. Judice completed 20 of 26 passes for 254 yards, with eight tosses going to Williams for 101 yards.

Perry Pitre threw scoring passes of 7 yards to Chase Dupuis and 21 yards to Zach LaFleur for St. Edmund (3-4, 1-3)

KENTWOOD 28, ARCHBISHOP HANNAN 6: In Covington, Leslie Collins scored on runs of 35 and 8 yards and Shyein Carter scored on a 94-yard run as second-ranked Kentwood (5-1, 2-0) knocked off Archbishop Hannan (4-2, 0-2) in District 7-1A. Tavarious Battiste threw an 18-yard TD pass to Thomas Route for the other Kangaroo score.

Michael Froeva scored the Hannan touchdown on a 5-yard run.

CHURCH POINT 41, NORTHWEST 7: In Prairie Ronde, James Bellard rushed for 166 yards on 11 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns as Church Point (5-2) improved to 2-0 in District 5-3A.

Bellard scored on 4 and 53 yard runs, and Devin Landry added 131 yards and a 70-yard run as the Bears scored in every quarter. Trevor Breaux, Brett Richard and Deion Monroe also scored for Church Point.

Northwest dropped to 5-2 and 0-2.

Thursday

VILLE PLATTE 42, PINE PRAIRIE 6: In Ville Platte, Jemarcus Jones scored three touchdowns as Ville Platte (4-3, 2-0) scored all 42 points in the first half to easily defeat Pine Prairie (1-5, 0-2) in District 5-2A Thursday night.

Jones, who rushed for 127 yards on only six carries, scored on runs of 56, 12 and 4 yards as Ville Platte scored 28 points in the first quarter. Ben Joseph added a 2-yard scoring run and Isaiah tossed a 44-yard TD pass to Justin Charles to push the lead to 35-0. A 45-yard interception return by Tranail Ben wrapped up the scoring.

Douglas Fontenot scored on a 1-yard run for the only Pine Prairie score.
