Initial claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana increased for the week ending Oct. 6 to 3,050 from the previous week’s 2,831.
For the comparable week a year earlier, ending Oct. 8, 2011, the figure was 3,727, the Louisiana Workforce Commission reported.
The four-week moving average of initial claims, a less volatile measurement, fell to 3,512 from the previous week’s average of 5,005.
Continued unemployment weeks claimed for the week ending Oct. 6 decreased to 31,541 from the previous week’s 31,883. The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 32,413 from the previous week’s 32,501.
