Catholic’s big meet set for Saturday

A total of 80 schools and more than 1,500 runners are registered to compete in Saturday’s Catholic High Invitational cross country meet.

The annual meet helps tops a weekend schedule that also includes a Capital City Swim League meet also set for Saturday at Crawfish Aquatics pool.

“All indications are that the meet is going to be about as big as its ever been,” Catholic coach Pete Boudreaux said. “And it should be competitive. Just about all the teams ranked in the latest composite polls will be here. West Monroe might be the one exception. There are some of teams, and we’re in that group, still looking for an identity. We’re trying different combinations, looking for the right seven. This should give us a good idea where we are halfway through the season.”

Races begin at 8:30 a.m. at BREC’s Highland Road Park with an open/junior varsity race. Two-mile junior high races for girls at 9 a.m. and boys at 9:30 are next. The three-mile girls race is at 10 a.m., followed by the three-mile boys race.
