LSU police are investigating an accident in which a vehicle struck pedestrian about 5:37 p.m. Wednesday.
Capt. Cory Lalonde said a 25-year-old student was crossing Nicholson Drive, walking toward the old Alex Box Stadium, when she was struck by a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old student who was turning from North Stadium Road on to Nicholson Drive. He would not say whether the driver was cited.
The pedestrian was transported to Baton Rouge General Hospital with a non-life-threatening head injury, Lalonde said, possibly from where her head hit the pavement.
Lalonde said the pedestrian did have the walk sign in the crosswalk, and alcohol is not considered a factor at this time.
Police would not confirm the identity of the student who was struck, but The Daily Reveille identified her as Jinjuta Jirawatjunya, a master’s degree student from Thailand.
Authorities arrested at least two people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, records show.
Those booked and the counts against them:
