North Oaks students win essay competiton

North Oaks School of Radiologic Technology students won several awards at the essay competition during the 55th annual meeting of the Louisiana Society of Radiology Technologists recently held in Lafayette.

Jessica Blanchard, of Holden, and Amber Johnson, of LaPlace, earned first place with their essay, “Saving Lives through Imaging One Organ at a Time.” Laura Bordelon, of Mandeville, placed second with her essay, “Becoming Informed: CT Full Body Screening,” and Robbie Lara, of Hammond, took third place with her essay concerning pediatric radiation. All essays were judged on originality, educational value and organization.

“We are extremely proud of our students. Winning the statewide essay competition is a prestigious honor, and to sweep the contest for two consecutive years is unprecedented,” said Marsha J. Talbert, who is program director of North Oaks School of Radiologic Technology.

The North Oaks School of Radiologic Technology is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. Students are trained to use advanced technology and equipment to obtain images for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injury as part of a dynamic health care team.

Upon program completion, students are eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists National Certification examination and apply for Louisiana state licensure.
