Central Middle School has welcomed Monica Hills as its new principal.
Hills lives in Prairieville with her husband and two sons, Timothy, who attends Prairieville Middle School, and Nicholas, who attends Prairieville Primary.
In college, Hills worked as a baby sitter for a doctor, and she worked at a law firm as a runner delivering important documents to court and other law firms, a news release from the school states.
Hills said she always wanted to be a teacher. As a little girl, she would play school with her dolls and teddy bears over the summer.
“I wasn’t so sure I wanted to be a principal, but once I started teaching I wanted to make an impact on more than just the students in my classroom,” she said.
Her experience includes teaching at Baton Rouge Magnet High School, St. Amant High and as an assistant principal and principal at Lowery Middle School.
Hills said she feels very comfortable at Central because the students remind her of the kids at Lowery Middle School.
Because of her sons’ sporting events and community organizations, Hills already knew a lot of students at Central Middle, she said.
“Central Middle School is the best school in Ascension Parish and the students are awesome,” she said. “There is great potential and I can’t wait to see what the school year holds.”
Hills said she was happy to see technology used in the classrooms.
“Having electronics is a great thing for students,” she said. “I have been hoping for it to happen. When I was in a classroom observing, a student had a question and the teacher said to look it up in Google on their phone.”
