Man indicted in Cedar Lake shooting death

A 30-year-old man Baton Rouge man was indicted Thursday in the Aug. 5 shooting death of another man in the Cedar Lake subdivision near Perkins Road and Staring Lane.

An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury charged Jermaine York, 1614 Emmaline Drive, with second-degree murder in the killing of Earl Brown, 30.

An arrest warrant says York shot Brown twice in the head about 3:15 p.m. in the parking lot outside Brown’s apartment at 1633 Cedar Lake Drive. Witness statements identified York as the shooter, the warrant states.

A second-degree murder conviction in the case would carry an automatic sentence of life in prison.

The case has been assigned to District Judge Don Johnson.
