Entries sought for Christmas parade

“Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” is the theme of the Jambalaya Festival Association’s Christmas Parade, which is set for 2 p.m. Dec. 9 in Gonzales.

The Christmas parade is a great event for local businesses, schools and organizations to showcase their Christmas spirit, parade organizer Fran Baker said.

“With the continued growth (of the parade), we would like to especially recognize the support and involvement of the Gonzales Police Department, the city of Gonzales, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Ascension Radio Club,” she said.

“Our strong partnership with these entities allows the parade to grow while maintaining the safe, family feel that we strive for year after year.”

Parade entries are confined to marching groups, individual cars carrying dignitaries and floats decorated within the limits of the theme.

The parade route will remain the same as last year — leaving East Ascension High School and traveling east on Worthey Road to Burnside Avenue, then north on Burnside to the Mall on Burnside Shopping Center, where the parade will dismantle.

Parade line up begins at 10:30 a.m. and all float entries should be in place by noon for judging.

Each entry is judged in four categories — overall appearance, use of theme, creativity and effort.

Entries should register by Nov. 19.

No late applications will be accepted, Baker said.
