2 booked in beating
of off-duty officer

Baton Rouge police arrested two men accused of beating an off-duty police officer Aug. 19 during an argument at an apartment complex on East Boyd Drive, according to arrest warrants.

The officer approached six to 10 men causing a disturbance at the Highland Village Condominiums at 141 E. Boyd Drive, the warrants say.

The officer was off duty and not in uniform, but he told the men he was an officer, Stubbs said.

The men then attacked the officer and knocked him to the ground, where they began to kick him, the warrants say. He suffered a broken right leg, a swollen jaw and a busted lower lip, the warrants say.

Anthony Tamburello and Joshua Tamburello, both of 137 Mattie St., LaPlace, were booked Monday into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, booking records show.

Anthony Tamburello was booked on one count each of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer and interfering with a law enforcement investigation. Joshua Tamburello was booked on one count each of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer and rioting.

Man, 24, killed after being hit by vehicle

A 24-year-old Baton Rouge man died Sunday after being hit by a vehicle while walking in the 9800 block of Greenwell Springs Road between Platt Drive and Oak Forest Avenue, police said Monday.

Reginald Davis was picking up something from the road at 9:40 p.m. when he was hit by a 1984 Chevrolet S-10 pickup, police spokesman Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said.

Davis, 9986 Greenwell Springs, died at the scene, Stubbs said.

The driver of the pickup, Stephon Stone, 18, 5708 Tioga Drive, was not injured or arrested, Stubbs said. The incident, however, is still under investigation.

Authorities book 20
on suspicion of DWI

Authorities arrested at least 20 people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Monday, booking records show.
