The Zachary Community School Board has its work cut out for it as it seeks to replace Warren Drake, who resigned as superintendent of the Zachary public school district to take a job with the Louisiana Department of Education.
Drake, the first paid superintendent of the Zachary school district, helped advance a $129 million construction program for the district.
The Zachary school district has been the state’s top-performing district for seven consecutive years.
Drake did a good job of harnessing — and encouraging — community involvement in the Zachary school district. We hope that his skills prove helpful at the state Department of Education, where he’s one of several network leaders who will work directly with district school superintendents to help advance state education policies.
The Zachary Community School Board could decide as early as Thursday on a new superintendent for the district. Five candidates are vying for the post, including several with ties to the district.
Drake set a high standard of performance for the Zachary school district during his 10-year tenure there. We know that his successor will face high expectations for the district’s continued success.
High expectations have served Zachary public schools well. Here’s hoping that the next superintendent can meet those expectations — and perhaps exceed them.
