150 vendors to offer variety at fall festival

The Denham Springs Antique District will host its annual fall festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

More than 150 vendors featuring local and regional crafts, antiques and art will line the streets while a variety of entertainment will be presented on two stages.

This year’s entertainment includes Floyd Brown as well as a visit from the stars of Swamp People, organizers said. Rides are free for children. Mattie Street will be transformed into “Arts Avenue” with local artists exhibiting a variety of unique works.

Republican Women

The Livingston Parish Republican Women will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Wholly Ground, 27988 Walker S. Road, La. 447, just north of Interstate 12 in Walker.

Guest speakers are Republican candidates running for Louisiana Public Service Commissioner and mayoral candidates from Livingston Parish. There is a charge for lunch.

Veterans parade floats

The Livingston Parish Veterans Association is accepting entries for the parade until Oct. 27. The Veterans Day Celebration and Parade will be Nov. 10 at the Walker High School Gym.

The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. with a ceremony honoring all veterans. The parade will follow at 1 p.m. There is no entry fee, but participants must submit an entry form, which is available on the LPVA Facebook page, www.facebook.com/lpva1, or by calling Gerald at (225) 937-3112.

The LPVA meets the first and third Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Walker Town Hall.

Pet Costume Contest

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Livingston is hosting its annual BowWowWeen Pet Costume Contest on Saturday during the fall festival in the Denham Springs Antique District. Hungarian Harvest Dance

The annual Hungarian Harvest Dance and Celebration at American Legion Hall, La. 43, in Springfield will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Advance tickets for adults are $10 and $5 for ages 8 to 12. Admission is free for ages 7 and younger. Tickets are $12 at the door. The event will feature Hungarian singing, the traditional Harvest Dance, a wine auction and dancing to Ernest Breaux and the Poo-Yai Band.
