LAFAYETTE — Nursing major Kimberly Newville will reign as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s 2012 Homecoming queen.
Campus events are scheduled throughout the week and culminate Saturday with the Ragin’ Cajuns game against Tulane University’s Green Wave at 4 p.m. at Cajun Field.
Newville and her court will be featured in the annual Homecoming Parade at 10 a.m. Saturday and presented during halftime at the homecoming game.
Newville is a junior with a 3.4 grade-point average and was nominated for the court by Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. She is the daughter of Bethany and Randy Newville, of Lafayette.
Newville is a member of Phi Mu, a Student Government Association representative for the College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions, and she serves on the Student Appeals Court and on the University Program Council. Her volunteer activities include Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life and Special Olympics.
Upon graduation, Newville plans to continue at the university for nursing graduate studies and work toward her goal to become a nurse practitioner.
Maids on the Homecoming Court are Dobrielle Gatlin, Victoria Lane, Courtney LeBlanc and Ashley Mudd.
Nominees for the court are submitted by UL-Lafayette student organizations. Senior Ragin’ Cajun football players choose the court after nominees have been interviewed.
Gatlin was nominated by the University Program Council. A sophomore majoring in mass communications–broadcasting, she holds a 3.4 GPA. She is the daughter of Danyelle and Reynard Scroggins, of Gloster, and Dwight and Quantina Gatlin, of Logansport.
Lane was nominated by Phi Kappa Theta. A junior majoring in marketing, she has a 3.4 GPA. She is the daughter of Ashley and Wendy Lane, of Lafayette.
LeBlanc, nominated by Spicy Cajun Micreaux, is a senior majoring in exercise science with a 3.2 GPA. She is the daughter of Madeline and Wayne LeBlanc, of Lafayette.
Mudd, a senior majoring in sociology, has a 3.9 GPA and was nominated by the Student Government Association, which she leads as its president. Mudd is the daughter of Joseph and Annette Mudd, of Abbeville, and Suzette O’Connor.
