‘Let the Dogs Out’
Companion Animal Alliance is puttin’ on the dog.
WHAT: Chef Kelley McCann, of Galatoire’s Bistro, will cook a benefit dinner with proceeds going to help Companion Animal Alliance provide better living conditions to dogs at its shelter.

DETAILS: Tickets are $200 for one of the 50 seats at the chef’s table or $150 to sit elsewhere. Diners will get a preview of McCann’s talents ahead of Galatoire’s expected reopening by the holidays at a new location in the Acadian Village Center on Perkins Road and Acadian Thruway.
Brave Heart benefit

WHAT: Brave Heart — Children in Need’s third annual golf tournament (four-person scarmble) and “Tea Time” for Ladies.
WHEN: Monday, Oct. 8, 11 a.m. golf check-in and 1 p.m. shotgun start.

DETAILS: Golfers will get 18 holes of golf with golf cart, lunch, snacks and door prizes. Cost is $135 per golfer and $500 per team. In addition, Whole Foods will host a “Tea Time” for ladies from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., featuring a variety of teas, food, floral and cooking demonstrations, holiday ideas and more in the Grill at Greystone. Tea is $25 per person. Proceeds will benefit Brave Heart’s Christmas project, which provides gift bags to 4,000 children in Louisiana in foster care.
Hazards disposal day
Say goodbye to old batteries, tires, cleaners and other hard-to-get-rid-of waste.

DETAILS: This free event is open to East Baton Rouge Parish residents only and is an opportunity to dispose of such items as aerosol cans, used oil, bleach, bug sprays, cleaning solvents, fluorescent tubes, glue, pesticides, metallic mercury, moth balls, various cleaners and pool chemicals. Go online for a complete list of accepted items. Business waste will not be accepted, nor will such items as ammunition, latex paint and medical waste.
