PotashCorp donates $20,000 to EAHS

East Ascension High School students who need more time to study before graduating have a new resource thanks to support from PCS Nitrogen Fertilizer’s PotashCorp Geismar’s facility.

At the school’s open house on Sept. 25, PotashCorp announced an investment of $20,000 to support a new computer study room at East Ascension High School.

The computer room will be used as part of a program that helps students recover education credits faster than re-enrolling in the class, a PotashCorp release states.

By attending the program either during or after school, most students are able to recover the credits they need within a nine-week period, giving them the ability to take the other classes they need to graduate on time, the release states.

“At PotashCorp, we’re committed to the places where we live and work, and we understand that education is an important part of what makes a community thrive,” Catherine B. Chachere, of PotashCorp Geismar, said. “We believe the new computer room at EAHS will help more students graduate, and that makes it worth every penny.”

The investment will purchase more than 30 computers.

“This new program will allow students to earn credits in courses they didn’t pass the first time around, freeing them up to take the classes they still need to graduate on time,” Principal Traci McCorkle said.

“PotashCorp Geismar’s investment in our school is more than an investment in a program and a computer lab, it’s an investment in the future of our students and the future of our community.”
