The annual Baker Buffalo Festival begins at 5 p.m. Thursday and continues through Saturday night on the grounds of the Baker Municipal Building, with proceeds going to the city’s schools.
Thursday’s events include an art display in the auditorium, a children’s public safety theater, talent show for Baker students and music by the Dunn Deal Allstars.
Friday night includes a spelling bee, planetarium, car and bike show and the band, U4RIA.
A 10 a.m. parade on La. 19 from Lavey Lane to the festival grounds begins Saturday’s activities, with the carnival area opening at 11 a.m. The entertainment lineup includes Lady Cam, Mellow Band, magician Chris Miller, student performances and Run Jane Run closing out the festival from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
“King of the Wings” cooking contests are at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, and a boxing tournament begins at 2 p.m.

Because the Buffalo Festival takes place near the Baker branch library, the library will be closed on Saturday.
The Regional Arts Council of Zachary is sponsoring an “Art Crawl” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at participating merchants on Main and Church streets in the old downtown area.
The displays will begin at the Gift Gallery Florist/Shag Studio shopping center and end at JoLynn’s Boutique next to Zachary United Methodist Church. Each participating business will feature one to three artists displaying and selling their artwork either within or outside the business throughout the night.
The event also features live music and theatrical productions at several locations.
East Baton Rouge Parish Metropolitan Councilman Trae Welch will hold his monthly Metro 1 Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Zachary Library, 1900 Church St. The public is invited to attend. The district includes Baker and Zachary, part of Central and the Pride and Chaneyville areas.
The Family Service Center, Early Head Start and Head Start programs of West Feliciana Parish will have its annual Family Literacy Night from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Family Service Center inside Bains Lower Elementary School. The public is invited to participate.
The Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade grants program recently selected the Zachary Fire Department and West Feliciana Parish Fire Protection District 1 to receive $5,000 grants. Zachary will buy large-diameter hoses, while West Feliciana will purchase a portable fire pump for use in remote areas and on the Mississippi River.
Kids 5 years old and older are invited to visit the Zachary branch library, 1900 Church St., at 2 p.m. Saturday for a theatrical performance of the book “The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle,” by Edward Irving Wortis, better known as Avi. To register for the program, call (225) 658-1870.
