Ragin’ Roar rally
to be held Thursday

Ragin’ Roar, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s biggest pep rally of the year, is set for 8 p.m. Thursday in the campus quadrangle.

The event is typically held before the first home football game, but was rescheduled due to Hurricane Isaac.

The event is sponsored by the University Program Council and features Ragin’ Cajun cheerleaders; the Ragin’ Jazz dance team; Cayenne, the university’s spirit leader; and the Pride of Acadiana Marching Band.

The event is open to the public.

‘Blackjack’ statue
to be dedicated

University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin’ Cajun football alumni and supporters will hold a dedication ceremony for a new statue and scholarship that memorializes Bill “Blackjack” Landry, the team’s longtime equipment manager.

The ceremony is at 5:30 p.m. at Cajun Field. Guests should enter through Gate A.

Landry was the football team’s equipment management from 1963 to 1998. Members of his family will be present for the ceremony and speakers include university president Joseph Savoie and former football coach and dean of students, Raymond Blanco.

The Blackjack Memorial Athletics Fund is an endowed scholarship dedicated to trainers and equipment managers.

ULL taking orders
for graduate rings

University of Louisiana at Lafayette graduates and seniors who order an official university ring by Oct. 9 will be invited to participate in an inaugural presentation ceremony in November.

The university’s first official ring was unveiled Sept. 1 and the rings will be on display during the Ragin’ Cajuns’ Nov. 17 game against Western Kentucky. Following the game, a procession will take the rings to Cypress Lake, where a concert and party will be held for participants.

University President Joseph Savoie will present the rings to alumni and seniors during a ceremony scheduled Nov. 18.

Rings may be ordered online at http://www.balfour.com. Balfour will remake older rings into the official UL Lafayette ring at no charge until Sept. 1, 2013.
