Parkview Baptist chooses interim leader

Parkview Baptist School’s board of directors announced Tuesday that they have promoted Don Green from assistant headmaster to interim headmaster.

Green runs the high school portion of the private Christian school in Baton Rouge and serves as head coach of boys and girls basketball.

Green will run Parkview for the 2012-13 school year and the board is planning to conduct a national search for a permanent headmaster.

The announcement says Green will still “provide oversight” over the high school and the basketball teams, but will delegate day-to-day responsibilities to others.

Green replaces Melanie Ezell, whom the board removed as headmaster in mid-August, just after the start of school.

Board Vice President Huey Beason said Ezell’s departure was due to a “difference in direction,” but wouldn’t elaborate.

She had served as headmaster since March 2007 and before that served for
three years as interim
headmaster of The Dunham School.

Joni Owens, director of advancement at Parkview, said the board of directors selected Green at its meeting on Thursday after considering external and internal candidates, and announced the selection to faculty on Monday.

Owens said Green is eligible to apply for the permanent headmaster position when it becomes available.

During his 12 years at Parkview, Green, an ordained minister, has served at the elementary, middle and high school levels as a teacher, assistant principal and dean of students.

He holds an undergraduate degree from LSU, a master’s degree from Southern University and is pursuing his doctoral degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, according to the announcement of his appointment.

Parkview Baptist School has students in prekindergarten to 12th grade and enrolled about 1,400 students last year.
