The Iberville Parish Council and Tourism Department is inviting the public to attend Iberville’s Swamp Life Expo on Oct. 6 at the Iberville Parish Visitor’s Center, located adjacent to Interstate 10 in Grosse Tete.
The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will celebrate Atchafalaya Basin culture.
The Swamp Life Expo will feature folk art, ecological and educational exhibits, demonstrations, special guest appearances, free samplings of Cajun dishes and live music by Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie.
Scheduled appearances include Junior and Willie Edwards, of the popular reality-TV show “Swamp People.”

The Greater Pointe Coupee Chamber of Commerce will host a barbecue cook-off and fishing tournament called “Rockin’ & Roasting on the River” Friday and Saturday at Morrison Parkway in New Roads.
The event will feature food, refreshments, live music, a raffle, arts and crafts booths, a boat parade and a youth fishing tournament.
The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Friday with live music by Dale Sellars and Backroads Band.
The daylong list of activities starts with a barbecue cook-off at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The youth fishing tournament will take place from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday.
The children’s tournament is open to those 14 years old and younger.

A trophy and $100 cash prize will be awarded for the biggest bass, catfish and bream.

The West Baton Rouge Parish Library is urging the public to get online and vote for the library in the “Read! Build! Play!” Contest at http://www.readbuildplay.com.
Voters need to select “Louisiana, Port Allen” at the top of the Web page and click on the West Baton Rouge Parish Library from the drop-down menu.
After entering a given code, voters just have to click “Nominate” to have their vote tallied for the contest.
The public has nine days left to vote. Votes can be submitted daily.
The leading libraries have generated more than 20,000 votes during a six-day period.
The winning library branch will receive $5,000.
The Pointe Coupee Historical Society will host its “Last Friday Louisiana Film Series” movie night on Friday.
The historical society will be showing the 2009 film “The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond,” starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Ann-Margret and Ellen Burstyn.
The event is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Julien Poydras Museum and Arts Center.
The event is free and fresh popcorn and ice-cold soft drinks will be available.

The public is invited to attend a panel discussion on American politics and democracy at Plaquemine High School at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 in the school’s cafeteria.
The debate will take place prior to the first nationally televised debate leading up to the Nov. 6 presidential election.
A large screen television will be used to view the debate.
Scheduled to appear as a special guest for “Debate Night in America” is Kevin V. Mulcahy, LSU professor of political science and author of the book “America Votes.”
The free and open to the public event is being organized by Plaquemine High students and civics and economics teacher Ricardo Malbrew.
