ExxonMobil retirees hear state archivist

State Archivist Florent Hardy Jr. spoke to the ExxonMobil Tigerland Retiree Club’s quarterly meeting on Sept. 13 at Juban’s Restaurant. Hardy highlighted resources available at the Louisiana State Archives, which he referred to as “Louisiana’s historical jewelry box.”

Hardy introduced the group to the Louisiana history book to be published by the Secretary of State’s office due in the coming months. The book will contain historical events, facts about Louisiana’s cultural and natural resources, official symbols, songs and poems.

Women in the Arts honors new members

Associated Women in the Arts held its annual luncheon to honor new members on Sept. 11 at the Baton Rouge Country Club.

President Marylyn Daniel, Vice President Sandra Roccaforte, Treasurer Elaine Atkinson and Secretary Nancy Ward greeted those who attended the luncheon. Members discussed the October exhibit at the Louisiana State Archives.

The AWA has a limited membership of exhibiting and non-exhibiting women whose works encompass the full range of art mediums. AWA was formed in 1980 in order to create opportunities to produce, exhibit and discuss their work as well as to broaden the cultural base of the area and promote visual arts.
