Police arrest man
for assault of officer

BREAUX BRIDGE — State Police arrested a 32-year-old Opelousas man on counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, felon in possession of a firearm and terrorizing, according to a State Police news release.

Laquantin Green was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail after being released from the hospital, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound to the upper torso, the news release says.

A deputy with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office shot Green on Sept. 12 after the deputy responded to a 911 call and found Green at the scene and armed with a handgun. The shooting occurred at 1129 A Saltmine Road in Breaux Bridge, the news release says.

Pickup believed to be involved in robbery

LAFAYETTE — Lafayette police have released a photo of a truck similar to the one used in a Friday afternoon bank robbery on Ambassador Caffery Parkway.

The truck is believed to be a 2004 to 2008 F250 Ford pickup, Lafayette police said in a news release Monday.

The robbery occurred at Whitney Bank at 4524 Ambassador Caffery Parkway at 4:30 p.m., police said.

The robber entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money. The man was 6 feet, 2 inches to 6 feet, 4 inches tall, weighing between 240 and 260 pounds. He was wearing a blue and white ball cap and a light-colored shirt with a white T-shirt underneath, the release says.

Police arrest 2 after finding cocaine in ca r

OPELOUSAS — State Police said they arrested a Houston man and woman Sunday morning after finding more than 15 pounds of cocaine inside their vehicle on Interstate 49 at U.S. 190 in St. Landry Parish.

The cocaine had an estimated street value of more than $152,000, State Police Trooper Stephen Hammons said in a news release Monday.

Troopers arrested the driver, 21-year-old Virginia Garcia, and her 33-year-old passenger, Manuel Gama, after stopping Garcia for improper lane use, Hammons said.

Garcia and Gama were both booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on one count each of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, Hammons said.
