The Pelican Point/Greens Garden Club kicked off its 2012-13 year with a meeting Sept. 13 under the leadership of President Weezie Cashat.
Millie Matherne led 27 members in a garden prayer. Secretary Susan Dupuis distributed information folders, and Penny Anderson gave the treasurer’s report.
New members Diane Covington, Gloria Kyler and Valerie Monks were introduced.
Yard-of-the-month winners for June, July, August and September were announced by committee chairwoman Teresa Martin.
Sandy Cusick, vice president, reviewed the calendar of events for the year. She said several field trips are planned along with general meetings featuring guest speakers. The October outing is a guided tour of LSU’s energy-efficient Louisiana House.
Cashat and Marilyn Rice discussed “Tablescapes,” an interior decorating concept of turning a table into a landscape. Tablescapes can be simple with an inexpensive floral centerpiece or more elaborate with china place settings, they explained. Samples were displayed.
Co-hostesses for the meeting were Cashat, Cusick, Dupuis, Anderson and Matherne.
