The Federal Emergency Management Agency has opened a Disaster Recovery Center in Iberville Parish to assist homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained property damage as a result of Hurricane Isaac.

The Iberville Parish center is located in the Manchac Room of the St. Gabriel Community Center, 1400 Gordon Simon Leblanc St., in St. Gabriel.

The center will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily until further notice.

Specialists from the state, FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on the types of assistance available to parish residents.

Charlie, Chocolate Factory

The We Are the Difference group is inviting the public to its production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” which will be performed at the Carl F. Grant Civic Center in Plaquemine on Wednesday and Thursday.

The show will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on both nights.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Tickets are available at Plaquemine Manor Nursing Home and the Plaquemine Chiropractic Clinic.

Museum activities

The West Baton Rouge Museum is holding two events that are free and open to the public during September:

• From Saturday through Dec. 2, the museum will present an exhibit on loan from the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism’s Division of Archeology titled, “Mardi Gras Shipwreck: Recovered Cache c. 1812.” The collection features artifacts recovered from the shipwreck that lay for 200 years under 4,000 feet of water in the Gulf of Mexico.
• “Lunchtime Lecture & Book Signing” event on Sept. 26 with Randy Harrelson, Brian Costello and photographer Richard Sexton highlights the Pointe Coupee Historical Society’s new book, “New Roads and Old Rivers.”

The museum also is asking the public to save the date for the annual SugarFest, which will take place from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Oct. 7 at the museum.

This year’s event will feature the grand opening of the Arbroth Plantation Store and the 17th annual Sweets Contest with celebrity judges.

Lego Club

The West Baton Rouge Parish Library’s Lego Club will meet at 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the library in Port Allen.

Club membership is designated for children and youths from 3 years of age to students attending middle school and their families.

Membership is free.
