ä Alfred Blue rushed for 101 yards, including a 21-yard score, and No. 3 LSU racked up 242 yards on the ground in a 41-3 victory over Washington on Saturday night.
Power runner Kenny Hilliard added a pair of short touchdowns and fullback J.C. Copeland powered through for another score for LSU (2-0), which basically ran at will while averaging nearly 5 yards per carry.
Tigers quarterback Zach Mettenberger was an efficient 12-of-18 for 195 yards, including a 32-yard scoring strike to Kadron Boone. James Wright caught five passes for 75 yards.
Keith Price was 17 of 36 for 157 yards for the Huskies (1-1).
ä LSU’s offensive line made things pretty easy for QB Zach Mettenberger and the running backs despite playing without starting left tackle Chris Faulk, who’s likely out for the season after injuring a knee in practice this week. Senior Josh Dworaczyk teamed with guards La’El Collins and Josh Williford, C P.J. Lonergan and RT Alex Hurst to open holes for the Tigers’ running backs and protect Mettenberger better than the line did a week earlier. LSU rushed for 242 yards and a 4.7 average as three different backs — Alfred Blue, J.C. Copeland and Kenny Hilliard (two) ran for scores.
ä LSU’s defensive line made things very rough for UW QB Keith Price and his teammates. The Tigers held the Huskies to 183 total yards and just 26 rushing yards on 24 attempts. Though the pass rush wasn’t great, it was better than it was week ago as LSU made four sacks a week after getting none.
ä Even though UW had the wind advantage in the first quarter, LSU’s punter advantage reaped dividends. The Tigers’ Brad Wing ripped a 62-yard line-drive punt into a 12 mph wind from the North, pinning the Huskies at their 4. After UW went three and out, Korey Durkee punted just 32 yards with the wind at his back, setting up the Tigers at the Huskies’ 38. Two plays later LSU had a 7-3 and was off and running.
