Running for Office: Metro Council Dist. 9

Building a sense of unity in East Baton Rouge Parish is key to Baton Rouge’s future, said Joel Boé, who is running for re-election for the District 9 Metro Council seat.

District 9 encompasses the southeastern corner of the parish, with portions of the district extending as far north as the intersection of Florida Boulevard and Old Hammond Highway and as far west as Pecue and Stumberg lanes.

Boé said the district been fortunate not to experience the same level of crime as in other parts of the parish, but said district residents should nevertheless be concerned about the need to reduce crime throughout the parish.

“It is crucial that there be effective communication between all parties,” Boé said. “We should be concerned with the overall health of our parish because we work, play and go to church in all areas of the parish.”

Boé, 36, vowed to work with other council members to achieve goals for the benefit all of East Baton Rouge Parish.

“Effective leadership through positive communication, team work and critical decision making” are important to moving Baton Rouge forward, Boé said.

Boé has been married to his wife, Jennifer, for 13 years and the couple has four children. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and an MBA degree from LSU.

Boé faces fellow Republican Ted Rush in the Nov. 6 election.
