Climate Central reports July was the all-time warmest month on record for the country. The report also notes 2012 has been the hottest year for the United States since record-keeping began in 1895.
Record-breaking heat hit every part of the country this year, including Baton Rouge, and more than 28,000 daily high temperature records were broken.
The state with the most extreme heat this year was Wisconsin, followed by Iowa and Missouri. Rounding out the list as the hottest were: Indiana, Minnesota, North Dakota, Illinois and Ohio. Colorado and Arkansas are the only states on the Top 10 list not in the Midwest.
Determining which state had the most extreme heat wasn’t decided by records broken but by four other data comparatives.
Fastcast: Almost muggy.
