The property at 1308 Greenoak Drive was once a working farm, but today is a 3.8-acre botanical garden filled with fruit trees, vegetable and flower gardens, and dense shrubbery. Right outside the back door of the 3,028-square-foot home you can have figs for breakfast, bananas for a snack and strawberries for super.
If you love plants and all things natural, this unique property could be the place you’re looking for. A u-shaped limestone driveway circles from Greenoak Drive to the front of the home, mostly hidden from the road by greenery. Then, a brick and gravel walkway leads to the front porch of the 7-year-old home.
A nice front door with leaded glass panes and sidelights opens to the foyer, which is floored in oak planks. The formal dining room to the right has the same oak floors, and a door with glass panels opens left into the home office. Much of the rest of the home is floored in 18-inch ceramic tile, and the carpet in the bedrooms is waiting to be replaced by the new owner’s choices.
Straight ahead from the foyer is the den, which features ceramic tile, crown molding on a 9-foot ceiling, and French doors to an L-shaped patio overlooking the back of the property. The owner reports that fruit trees and plants include – but are not limited to – pears, persimmons, cumquats, figs, bananas, pineapples, grapefruits, peaches and strawberries. All manner of other plants and flowers share the grounds with the above.
Meanwhile, back inside, a built-in bookcase is located in a short passageway from the den to the bedroom wing of the split floor plan. The guest bedroom is to the left and a large sitting room edging the two master bedrooms is to the right. A full master bath services both bedrooms off the sitting area. The ceramic tile master bath has a long double vanity and a separate makeup desk with mirrors. There’s a 6-foot soaker tub below a leaded glass mirror, and a big walk-in shower. The master closet is huge, with lots of shelving and hanging space. Another full bath services the front bedroom, and a large laundry room along the hall has a double stainless sink, a window, an exterior door and plenty of room for today’s larger washers and dryers, as well as a freezer.
The kitchen is also large, with an angling center island topped with granite tile identical to tile on the counter tops. Accessed via a cased entry from the den, the kitchen and keeping room are floored in ceramic tile. Cabinetry is oak, and there’s lots of it. There are two porcelain sinks, one for vegetables on the island and another double sink below wide windows with sidelights. The microwave and oven are in an “over-and-under” configuration at the end of the counter space.
Outside on the covered porch, two ceiling fans are overhead. The current owner says there are more than 500 banana plants alone on the property. Figs are ripe right now, and pineapples are blooming.
This nice 3-bedroom, 2-bath home has two zoned air conditioning units and sits on a property perfect for sharpening your horticulturist skills. If you don’t like greenery, this isn’t the place for you unless you want to do some serious landscape clearing. But if you appreciate plants and nature – and you like fresh fruit – this could be your kind of place.
