Ascension Parish government has issued a voluntary evacuation order for parts of St. Amant, Acy and Sorrento because of rising waters from the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isaac.
The voluntary evacuation area includes an area south of La. 934, also know as Gold Place Road; east of La. 431 and La. 941, also known as Brittany Tower Road; north of Interstate 10 to the I-10/U.S. 61 crossover; and continuing north to La. 934.
A mandatory evacuation has been called for the extreme southern portions of the parish, effective 5 p.m. Monday. This includes the Manchac area, the Akers community, Lee’s Landing and all areas south of Wadesboro and Weinberger roads. A voluntary evacuation is being called for all areas south of La. 22, effective immediately.
A mandatory evacuation also has been called for areas along the Tangipahoa River, including an immediate evacuation of Kentwood.
