WALKER — Alderman Jack Summerell says he will remain an advocate for a business-friendly atmosphere if voters return him to the Walker Board of Alderman on Nov. 6.
He says he encourages continued positive development along the La. 447 and U.S. 190 commercial corridors.
“If we are to continue to enjoy our way of life, we need additional service-oriented businesses that allow us to stay in Walker rather than driving” elsewhere for a meal or a movie, Summerell says in his announcement.
“The continued growth will also provide additional employment opportunities for our citizens, as well as for those people of Livingston Parish who want to travel less for a job,” he says.
Summerell, 64, says he has been an ardent supporter of measures designed to improve Walker’s quality of life, including programs to eliminate blight and improve parks.
He says he wants continued open, responsible and accountable government, with fair and equal representation of all.
Preserving and enhancing quality of life in the community by promoting responsible economic and population growth is important to the city, he says.
Summerell said he wants to hold the line on taxes and to protect citizens by supporting cost-effective law enforcement, fire protection and emergency services.
The alderman, who has lived in Walker for 32 years, first took office in 2009.
Summerell, a local business owner, graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University, where he studied industrial management.
He serves as an elder at Faith Presbyterian Church and remains an active member of the Walker Kiwanis Club
He and his wife, Denise Kirn Summerell, have been married for 39 years.
