LSU Theatre Lab will open season with The Sky Watchers

A production of Shawn Morganlander’s new play, The Sky Watchers, will open the LSU Theatre’s Lab season this year.

The show will open Tuesday, Sept. 11, with performances through Friday, Sept. 14, and Sunday, Sept. 16. All performances will take place in the Studio Theatre, located in the Music and Dramatic Arts Building on Dalrymple Drive.

The Sky Watchers reveals the passion of two teenagers, from their first meeting on a rooftop apartment throughout the evolution of their relationship. The story handles the many excitements and difficulties of young love, and delves deeper into the pain and strength of commitment when illness enters life too soon. This story carries the poignancy of reality and is based on events in the author’s life. Written by Morganlander, a new playwright, the story is appropriate for all ages, but especially relevant to the younger generation.

“The themes of The Sky Watchers are relatable to our dynamic because it was written by one of us,” production stage manager Elizabeth Cowan said. “Above all, The Sky Watchers is a love story, and one that is sure to touch the audience.”

LSU Theatre’s Lab production of The Sky Watchers is supported by the LSU Performing Arts Fee.

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. each night, as well as both a 2 p.m. matinee performance and evening performance on Sunday, Sept. 16. Tickets are $10 cash each and can be purchased only at the door.
