Architects awarded Roses

All honors are nice, but they’re especially meaningful when they come from your peers. The Baton Rouge Chapter of the American Institute of Architects handed out its prestigious Rose Awards at a gala July 27 the Old Governor’s Mansion.

The evening’s big winner – Holly & Smith Architects, of Hammond, which won not only two Gold Rose Awards (for Village de Jardin Senior Housing in New Orleans and Southeastern University’s Kinesiology, Health Studies & Nursing Building) but also the Members’ Choice Award for the NOLA project. Another multiple winner was Trahan Architects, which earned a Silver Rose for its design of the Acadia Parish Conference Center and Rose Award for the unrealized Zhengshou mixed use development project.

Awards also went to Jim Sullivan, Louisiana Architecture Bureau, Gold Rose for the YMCA Pavillion; PlusOne Design & Construction, Gold Rose for the Scissor House; Coleman Partners, Silver Rose for the Marriott Crystal Shores San Marco Island; Tipton Associates, Silver Rose for the Sam Houston State University Northside Dining Hall; and Lionel Bailey, Rose Award for an indoor/outdoor living renovation/addition.

Digital photos should be emailed to pbordelon@theadvocate.com; hard copy photos should be dropped off at or mailed to The Advocate, 7290 Bluebonnet Blvd. Events will run no later than four weeks after they have taken place. The date, place of the event and a contact name and phone number must be included. Photos may not include more than nine people and will be used on a space-available basis. Hard copy photos can be picked up in the lobby of The Advocate for up to three months after they run. You agree that they can be published in any of The Advocate’s print or digital publications.
