Tickets on sale for Brigadoon at Runnels; Arts Council concerts set

Tickets are on sale for Runnels Community Theatre’s production of the musical Brigadoon, set for Friday through Sunday, Aug. 24-26, at the Runnels School Theatre, 17255 S. Harrell’s Ferry Road. Nutcracker auditions set

Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre will conduct auditions for its annual production, The Nutcracker — A Tale from the Bayou, as well as for its 2012-13 season, on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15-16, in the Dancers’ Workshop, 10745 Linkwood Court. Roles are available for children and advanced dancers. Season auditions will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, and are for classically trained, advanced level dancers who have been on pointe for at least two years. Nutcracker auditions for children ages 8-12 will be Sunday, Sept. 16. The schedule will be 12:45 p.m., boys age 8 and older; 1:15 p.m., girls age 8; 2 p.m., girls age 9; 2:45 p.m., girls age 10; and 3:30 p.m., girls ages 11-12. There will be a $5 audition fee. At LSU MOA

The exhibit, Uniquely Louisiana, featuring artists’ work inspired by Louisiana’s environment, will open Saturday, Aug. 11, at the LSU Museum of Art in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St. The show will run through Nov. 11, and is the museum’s exhibit celebrating the state’s 200th anniversary. Uniquely Louisiana is made up of more than 50 paintings, prints, sculptures, mixed media and video installations by artists including David Bates, Brad Bourgoyne, Michael Crespo, Courtney Egan, David Humphreys, Kathryn Hunter and Ed Smith. In West Baton Rouge

On July 26, the West Baton Rouge Museum, 845 N. Jefferson Ave., Port Allen, received a grant for $13,000 from the Union Pacific Foundation Board to support the Arbroth Mercantile Plantation Store’s historical restoration and wheelchair ramp project. In the last three years, the museum has restored the store to render it safe for tours, to make the historical building handicap accessible, to provide a space for educational displays and to bring the store back to the way it looked between 1917 and 1945, the time between the two world wars. Art auction set

The Louisiana Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders, headquartered at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, will host an art auction at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the Houma Municipal Auditorium, 800 Verret St., Thibodaux. A $25,000 gift from jazz enthusiasts Nathan and Priscilla Gordon will establish the Gordon Scholarship in Brass at the University of New Orleans. The scholarship will support new undergraduate students who are majoring in jazz at UNO and demonstrate talent in playing a brass instrument.

The Gordon Scholarship in Brass will be granted each fall and spring semester, provided the student remains in good standing with the university. Recipients are eligible to receive the scholarship for a maximum of eight semesters. The first award will be made as early as the fall 2012 semester.
