Jehovah’s Witnesses meet in Lake Charles

An estimated 13,800 Jehovah’s Witnesses will meet at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles over three consecutive weekends for the Safeguard Your Heart! District Convention. The free three-day events — scheduled for July 27-29 and Aug. 3-5 in English and Aug. 10-12 in Spanish — will include discourses, dramatic Bible readings, presentations and a play. Email rolandc1099@gmail.com for information.

Book club prepares for next selection

Building Biblical Principles Through The Power of Literature, a young men’s book club of New Life Ministries, is wrapping up its first summer selection, “No Way Out,” a Bluford Series paperback by Peggy Kern, and will announce its next book Saturday night.

The club uses Bible verses during its discussions of themes from the readings.

The club will announce its next book and club members will participate in creative activities at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in front of the Old State Capitol.

The club was started last year by moms who wanted their sons to have something better to do during the summer than play video games.

Contact Kellie Bynum-Lathan at (225) 328-0661 or email jlathan09@me.com to sign up for the next book.
