Woman killed after her car strikes trees

State Police worked on Saturday to identify a woman who died in St. Helena Parish when her Buick LaCrosse left the road and slammed into several trees, a trooper said.

The wreck happened about 2:45 a.m. Saturday on La. 37 about a mile north of La. 63 near the Grangeville community, Trooper First Class Nick Manale said in a news release.

The woman was driving the 2011 Buick south on La. 37 when, for unknown reasons, the car veered off the road and barreled into the trees before stopping on the east side of the highway, Manale’s release says.

The woman was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol use is not known, pending the results of a toxicology exam, Manale said.

Anyone with information about the crash or the identity of the victim is asked to contact State Police Troop L at (985) 893-6250, Manale said.
