Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Recreational Sports and Wellness will host the “Back to School Blast,” a week-long camp July 30 through Aug. 3.
Created for children ages 5 to 12, the “Back to School Blast” is an option for parents looking for one last camp before school starts.
Scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, the camp will have a variety of activities planned throughout the week at the Pennington Student Activity Center, located at the corner of University Avenue and General Pershing Avenue. Amy Oberschmidt, assistant director of Guest Services, said activities include outdoor adventures, field day games, arts and crafts, health and fitness talks, relay races, a talent show, water fun, a quiz bowl and pizza day.
Registration is $125, with a $15 discount for each additional child, and includes breakfast, lunch and snacks each day. Women Outreaching Women will sell discount fireworks until July 5 at 26852 4-H Club Road, Denham Springs.
WOW will also showcase artwork by local artists.
Proceeds from fireworks sales will benefit WOW, a nonprofit organization in Livingston Parish that operates an emergency shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence.

Watercolor classes sponsored by the Arts Council of Livingston Parish that were scheduled for June 20 and 22 have been rescheduled.
The beginner classes designed for high school students and adults will be from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 9 and 16.
No experience is required.
The classes are designed for students who want to learn about painting with watercolors but have never had the courage to try, organizers said. Instructor Paulette Ferguson will demonstrate watercolor painting techniques, and participants will also learn to mix colors and composition.
Those attending will need 9-inch-by-12-inch, 140-pound watercolor paper or pad, a selection of watercolor brushes: ½ to 1 inch flat wash brush, a No. 6 round brush, a No. 4 or No. 6 blending angle brush, and a small liner brush. Watercolor paints and other miscellaneous supplies will be provided.
The cost is $35, and $30 for Arts Council members.
Walker will celebrate an old fashioned Independence Day with music, water slides, craft fair, fireworks and more at CityFest.
The summer craft show will start at 2 p.m. Saturday. Other activities will start at 4 p.m. All activities will be held at Sidney Hutchinson Park, 13750 Ball Park Road.
