Two arrested in Sunday morning shooting death

Two men were arrested early Sunday morning in the shooting at a Greenwell Springs Road nightclub Thursday that left one man dead, according to affidavits of probable cause from the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Anthony Armstead, 26, and Cedric Ray Banks, 33, were arrested for their involvement in the shooting death of Arthur Johnson, 28, at Club Tri-Ambient on 6105 Greenwell Springs Road, the affidavits say.

Armstead shot and killed Johnson, 3002 East Mason Apt. 31, in the club’s parking lot after an argument, according to the affidavit for his arrest.

Police said Johnson later died at a hospital.

Armstead fired another shot that struck a woman in the parking lot, the affidavit says. She was hit in the torso and taken to the hospital, the affidavit says.

Police said her injury was not life-threatening.

Another man’s cell phone was shot off his hip, but he did not suffer any injuries, police said.

Armstead fled the scene in a vehicle driven by Banks, according to the affidavit for his arrest.

Armstead, 1009 Georgia St., Baker, was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Banks, 1288 Oriole St., was booked into Parish Prison on one count of principle to first-degree murder.
