Fresh Fest kicks off this Saturday with the annual Butterfly Extravaganza. Gary Ross, naturalist and lepidopterist, will conduct a workshop on attracting and caring for butterflies at 10 a.m. inside Main Street Market. Following his discussion, Ross will be outside to answer questions on butterfly gardening and to suggest ideal plants for attracting butterflies. Children will enjoy a butterfly art activity based on “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”
Musical entertainment will feature local guitarist Kevin Johnson performing throughout the morning. Local musicians are invited to join the Bluegrass Jam inside the market.
Both the Tuesday and Thursday markets, at the Unitarian Church on Goodwood and at Pennington Biomedical Research Center, respectively, will also be open this week.
Louisiana Purchase, credit and debit cards are accepted at both locations of the Red Stick Farmers Market.

In this week’s cooking demonstration, chef Pete Kusiw of Juniper Restaurant in Mandeville will prepare a seasonal selection from the menu. Music will be provided by Julie and Joe Manuel.
Fresh produce will include tomatoes, eggplant, squash, peppers, potatoes, cucumbers, onions, greens, strawberries, peaches, nectarines, bluberries and plums.
Seafood, meats, dairy products, eggs, honey, herbs and prepared foods will also be available.
