Chamber to offer small-business aid

In celebration of National Small Business Week, the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce will provide an opportunity for individuals interested in starting or expanding a business in Walker, Denham Springs, Livingston, Albany, Springfield and other surrounding areas to meet with a professional consultant Thursday at the Chamber office, 133 Hummell St., Denham Springs.

This service will be provided by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University.

The SLU SBDC provides assistance in the following areas: business plans, advertising plans, inventory control, financial projections, cost analysis, and much more.

Confidential, one-on-one meetings will be available by appointment only. Future meetings will be available on the fourth Thursday of each month at the SLU SBDC.

Arts Council to hold childrens program

The Livingston Parish Arts Council will offer a children’s drawing camp from 10 am. to noon June 6-8. Students in grades two through five will draw from observation and from photographs. Participants will learn to draw landscapes, people, animals and still life.

Each student will produce at least three drawings in pencil, colored pencil and pastels. The instructor will be Marica Arnold Eisworth.

SLU center offers business seminar

The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University will offer a seminar “Starting and Financing Your Business Idea” from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Southeast Louisiana Business Center, 1514 Martens Drive, Hammond.

The class is free, but pre-registration is preferred, organizers said.

“This workshop is highly recommended for anyone interested in determining the feasibility of their business idea, those planning to start or who have recently started a small business, seeking a small business loan, or wanting to learn more about business planning,” said Sandy Summers, assistant director of the SLU SBDC.

Topics will include entrepreneurship readiness, writing a business plan, sources of funds for start-up and expansion, small business resources, and required licenses.

Reading program for youths offered

The Livingston Parish Library will begin signing up youths for its annual summer reading program Tuesday at all branches.

Youths can sign up for the program until July 27, library officials said.
