When Andrea Seabrook saluted the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana during her recent visit, it was an obvious case of one public watchdog saluting another. Seabrook, who covers Congress for National Public Radio, was in town to speak before a luncheon gathering for PAR, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research group that studies state issues.
Seabrook said that in an increasingly partisan political environment, groups such as PAR serve a valuable purpose by providing objective information on important matters of public policy.
Seabrookâs praise of PAR is a good reminder of the important role the group has played in advancing the public interest.
