Volunteers are invited to participate in Baker Heights Elementary School’s Second annual Restoration Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Organized by Teach for America corps members Anthony Rushing and Jessica Jones, the event will bring volunteers to the Baker school for painting and other odd jobs.
One of their big projects will be to paint a mural with the school’s mascot — the buffalo — near the entrance to the school to help build school spirit.
Slaughter Elementary School’s Health Advisory Council is holding an Asthma Walk on May 12 to raise awareness about asthma and teach students the importance of charitable giving. Sponsors will provide drinks and healthy snacks, and a bloodmobile will be on hand for donations.
The walk will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Slaughter Town Hall. Anyone interested in participating or helping may call Assistant Principal Tom Sanches at (225) 654-4527.
Lane Behavioral Health Services, 5550 Thomas Road in Baker, will have an open house and ribbon cutting for the facility at 2:30 p.m. May 10. The public is invited to attend.

Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site in St. Francisville presents “The Duel at High Noon” on Saturday, a primer on the 19th code of honor that governed disputes between gentlemen of that era, including the staging of duels.
Join Interpretive Ranger Sasha Traña at noon on the grounds near Rosedown’s main parking area.
For a different side of Louisiana’s history, visit Audubon State Historic Site in West Feliciana Parish on Saturday for 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. tours of the historic slave cabins of Oakley Plantation.
Visitors will see how slaves lived, hear stories of their struggles and accomplishments, then compare life, later, in a sharecroppers cabin.
The Audubon Regional Library’s Clinton branch invites elementary school-age and younger children to read Mother’s Day stories and make crafts gifts for moms at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
The Jackson branch will have a story time and crafts session for Mother’s Day at 10 a.m. May 12.
Dorcas Door, the Clinton thrift store at 11152 Church St., behind First Baptist Church, will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday during Market Day, offering new and nearly new clothes and small items.
Photographer Yolanda D’Aquilla is the artist of the month at the East Feliciana Clerk of Court’s Office on St. Helena Street in Clinton. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
