MOBILE, Ala. — Stefan Lopez tied the Southland Conference career saves record to help Southeastern Louisiana defeat South Alabama 6-3.
The Lions wrapped up a season-long, eight-game road trip by winning their last three games, finishing the swing 5-3. It was their third consecutive win over the Jaguars.
Josh Janway (3-3) picked up the win for the Lions. Tanner Rainey, Matt Pittari and Dylan Hills all saw time on the mound. Rainey worked a career-long three innings in relief.
Lopez retired the only batter he faced to preserve the win and pick up his 17th save of the season.
ULM 8, MCNEESE STATE 6: McNeese State took an early lead, but the Cowboys let it get away to drop an 8-6 nonconference game to the University of Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday.
The Cowboys had tagged Warhawk starter Alex Hermeling for four runs in the bottom of the second inning to go up 4-1. They added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings and were up 6-5 after seven innings.
UL Monroe then took advantage of two hit batsmen, a walk and a pair of hits for three runs for what turned into a two run victory.
The loss drops the Cowboys to 18-24 and ULM improves to 22-23. The eams will meet again in Monroe on May 15 in a game that will have a 3 p.m. start.
Jason Gibson started the game on the mound for the Cowboys and left with a 5-4 lead after pitching five innings, giving up seven hits and four runs. He also struck out five and walked three.
