St. Michael of Archangel won the Division II-4A boys state tennis title and St. Joseph’s Academy and Catholic High finished second in the Division I-5A tournaments Tuesday, while the Zachary boys are in first place going into the final day of the Division I-5A golf championships.
Those teams highlighted local teams on a busy day Tuesday at state championships being held for tennis and golf across the state.
St. Michael’s won the boys state championship in Division II-4A, scoring 14 points to Vandebilt Catholic’s 10 in the tourney held in Monroe.
The Warriors’ Cameron Andry claimed the singles title with a victory over Holy Cross’ Daniel Olivier.
In the girls’ Division I-5A tournament, St. Joseph’s Academy and Mount Carmel tied for second place with 11 points each, just two behind Dominican.
In boys’ Division I-5A, Jesuit won the singles and doubles to power its way to the state title with 18 points, while Catholic High claimed second with 12 points.
Also, Neville won the Division II-4A girls title with 13 points, while Vandebilt Catholic finished second with 10 points.
Zachary and Barbe are tied going into the final round of the boys Division I-5A tournament on Wednesday at Zachary’s Copper Mill Golf Club.
Zachary and Barbe shot matching scores of 295 to share the lead, while Denham Springs was in fifth place (310) and Catholic High in seventh (312) after the first round.
Zachary’s Drew Patin shot a 5-under 67 to take a one-shot lead in the individual standings and help the Broncos into first place. Teammate Peyton McCulloch was tied for fourth at 1-under 71.
In the Division IV-2A boys tournament at The Atchafalaya at Idlewild Golf Course in Patterson, Dunham’s Conner Cavin has the lead going into Wednesday’s final round after shooting a 4-under 68 on Tuesday.
Cavin has a two-stroke edge over Episcopal’s Ross Davis, while Runnels’ Grant Welch (74) was in fourth with Dunham’s Adam Galliano (76) sitting in a tie for eighth.
In the team race, Calvary Baptist leads with a 296, followed by Dunham (306), Episcopal (327) and University High (331).
In the Division II-4A tournament at Oak Wing in Alexandria, Benton won the team title with a two-day score of 633, two shots better than Alexandria (635).
In the Division V-1A and Division VI-B and C tournaments at Links on the Bayou in Alexandria, Cedar Creek shot a 290 in the first round and has the V-1A lead over Ascension Episcopal (332), which was led by Michael Case’s 75.
Weston (350) leads Episcopal of Acadiana (365) in the chase for the Division VI-B and C title.
