DONALDSONVILLE — An 18-wheeler that carries anhydrous ammonia but had no load Monday morning overturned on the west bank of Ascension Parish, authorities said.
The truck overturned shortly before 10 a.m. near the intersection of La. 3120 and La. 18, also known as River Road, near the St. Jude neighborhood and the Aben community outside Donaldsonville, authorities said.
The intersection is also near the CF Industries nitrogen fertilizer complex on the Mississippi River.
The crash was not treated as a hazardous materials incident since the tanker was empty and no chemicals were released, said Rick Webre, director of the parish Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness office.
Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said the truck turned over in a ditch and did not block traffic. No was injured.
The scene was cleared by 3:36 p.m. Monday, Bacala said.
